Who we are and what we do-
The SONORA YACHT CLUB is more that your usual yacht club – We are launching a very differnet, inclusive and forward-looking enterprise centered around sailing and watersports. But it is not all about boats; it is about people, especially the residents and businesses of Sonora.
We are incorporating the love of the sea and sailing with the appeal of a social and business ‘club’ where:
-Friends are made;
-Business people are able to meet and socialize in an extremely neutral location that is very condusive to business;
-Where youth with talent and aspirations are given an opportunity that otherwise would not be available to them;
-Where local artists, musicians and talent can show their skills;
– Where one can try new sports on the water;
-Where ‘clubs within the club’ can be formed;
We also include an International Yacht Training Sailing School, a Social and Member club, host a variety of events, regattas and sailboat racing.
Sonora Yacht Club was founded by Victor Felice, the owner of Tiller and Kites Sailing in Phoenix, Arizona and Faris Sukkar, an avid sailor and businessman. Together they bring years of business and hospitality experience ‘with a twist’ to Guaymas.
International Yacht Training
Sonora Yacht Club also hosts the first International Yacht Training sailing school in Mexico (in cooperation with Tiller and Kites Sailing School in Arizona). We offer beginner sailing all the way up to Bareboat Skipper and Yachtmaster certification that is recognized worldwide.

For decades, traditional yacht clubs have delivered great sports, racing, events and regattas in their respective communities. We are continuing in that tradition without the restrictions of a traditional club structure with their strict rules and regulations. We are free to explore any and all possibilities and opportunities that enhance the sport, afford the opportunities to sail and learn about sailing, put Guaymas on the ‘sailing map’ and do it all while supporting and partnering with local businesses and enterprises.
Why should becoming a member of the SONORA YACHT CLUB be important to you? Numerous reasons!
First of all, you will be part of a new and exciting venture in the heart of the Sea of Cortez. Your membership includes your participation in forming the direction of the club, the types of activities we support and the opportunity to help shape the future of sailing and watersports in Guaymas. We are primarily a sailing club however we never say no to powerboats!
One of our focus points is the Youth of Guaymas – is the next Mexican or Olympic champion born and rasied in town but never had the opportunity to learn how to sail? We will never know unless we make sailing and boats accessable to them.
Is the next vice-president of your company a 15 year old, today, who through sailing has learned discipline, decision making, team work, managing people and assets, understands where the money comes from, can defend their position in front of a racing jury yet learns humility when they are wrong?
Is the next commander in the Mexican navy a product of sailing with SYC?
Local Artists of all types will have access to the club and your membership supports them as well.

Our school creates Capable, Confident and Competent sailors- of all ages. Local day sailing, long distance cruising and hard-core racing all require a hich measure of all the three C's.
