A unique and new concept in the heart of the Sea of Cortez
The Sonora Yacht Club is more than a club, more than yachts and sailing – we are building a new heartbeat right in the middle of the Sea of Cortez. The SYC is based at the Marina Turistica de Guaymas (formely Fonatur) and enjoys one of the most ideal locations for anything sailing.
The bay is a natural arena for regattas and racing and the marina is exaquisitly maintainied and offers all types of services. Most importantly, the Club is not a typical or traditional club. Our home base is open to all sorts of water based activities as well as cultural, artisitic, musical and business endeavors. We participate, promote and encourage local businesses and suppliers as well as youth sailing programs. Young sailors will learn new skills and disciplines that will serve them very well in their careers and the choices thay make.
We are always open to new ideas, suggestions and opportunities that will not only grow the Club but will serve and promote Guaymas as a ‘must visit’ destination.
The SYC is also an International Yacht Training sailing school (in conjunction with Tiller and Kites of Arizona) – beginners to more advanced sailors can certainly benefit from learning and understanding ‘the proper way’ as well as obtaining the internationally recognized certfications that only IYT can provide.
We own and maintain our fleet of boats that are available for rent or charter.

LOCATION
The Sea of Cortez is, as Jacques Cousteau described “the world’s aquarium” – that is why we chose Guaymas as our home base. We are just a one hour drive from Hermosillo, 5 from Tucson and 7 from Phoenix. Guaymas includes the iconic San Carlos and Miramar towns .
EDUCATION
Sail far, sail fast, sail like a pro! SYC is affliliated with Tiller and Kites Sailing School (Phoenix AZ) and provides many International Yacht Training courses with International Certificates and accreditation.
The courses and training are designed to create Competent, Confident and Capable sailors.
Certificate
ABOUT ICC (International Certificate of Competency) – it is now mandatory to hold a recognized International Certificate of Competency (ICC) if you wish to charter a boat in certain European countries. It is generally required for the inland and coastal waters of Mediterranean countries.
